Madonna’s only condition for Deadpool and Wolverine to use the cult song

There was an interesting meeting where Madonna allowed Deadpool and Wolverine to use her huge hit Like a Prayer and she also made a helpful comment about the film.

PEOPLE reports that rising movie stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Hackman met the legendary singer, and she also visited director Shawn Levy. All of this was done to use the song, which would play a major role in the Marvel blockbuster.

The story was revealed last Friday in an interview with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM, where the director and actors talked about what it took to convince the Queen of Pop.

“This included a personal visit with Madonna where we showed Madonna the sequence in which ‘Like a Prayer’ would be used,” Levy said.

“We also have to say up front that they are not licensing – that Madonna is not just licensing the song, especially this song,” Reynolds said.

“It was a big deal to ask for it and an even bigger deal to use it,” the actor continued. “We went and met her and showed her how it was used, where and why.”

The director mentioned that the visit felt like “meeting with royalty,” and Reynolds wasn’t quite sure how to address her.

“Can I just say ‘Madonna’?” asked Reynolds. “Like, ‘Hello Madonna, I’m Ryan.'”

What may have helped the singer say “yes” to using the song was that her son was a fan of the first two Deadpool movies. In addition, Madonna had a helpful note about the film.

“She made a great pitch,” Reynolds added. “She saw it, and I kid you not (she said), ‘This is what you have to do.’ And damn if she didn’t hit the nail on the head.”

“We literally started a new recording session within 48 hours to record that note… It made the sequence better,” Levy said.

Marvel has released the soundtrack to the film. The official release states that it will be available on CD and 12-inch 2-LP vinyl the same day as the film. Additionally, streaming is available on the official Deadpool playlist.

The bands include *NSYNC, Goo Goo Dolls, Huey Lewis & The News, Chris de Burgh, Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, Waylon Jennings, Avril Lavigne, Green Day and others. The official tracklist includes a total of 18 songs.

The note and the Madonna sequence have yet to be revealed. It will be exciting to find out when Deadpool and Wolverine hit theaters on July 26.
