35-year-old Brazilian singer dies of electrocution after hugging drenched fan on stage

Ayres Sasaki, a 35-year-old Brazilian rock singer, died of an electric shock during a live performance on July 13, according to a report in the IndependentThe incident occurred at the Solar Hotel in Salinopolis. The singer touched a soaking wet fan, which electrocuted him and killed him.

The reason why the fan was wet is still unknown, but Salinopolis police have stated that they are investigating the case. According to Brazilian magazine Istoe Gente, the Para Civil Police stated that witness statements had been taken and authorities had requested expert reports.

According to a report by Brazilian media outlet Diario do Para, Mr. Sasaki was electrocuted while playing the guitar, although most reports suggest he died after hugging the fan. Solar Hotel released a statement on Instagram and said they are cooperating with the investigation: “Hotel Solar deeply regrets the loss of dear Ayres Sasaki. Since yesterday, we are fully dedicated to supporting your family and taking care of the necessary arrangements. We are in direct contact with your family and offer you all the support you need during this difficult time.”

“We reiterate our commitment to fully cooperate with the relevant authorities to provide the necessary clarifications. Our thoughts and condolences are with Ayres Sasaki’s family and friends during this difficult time,” they added.

Rita Matos, the singer’s aunt, told the Brazilian broadcaster: “We are contacting people who were with him at the time to understand how everything happened. We will gather all the information in a statement that we will release to the press.”

In addition to his work as a singer, Mr. Sasaki also worked as a city planner. He leaves behind his wife. The couple married 11 months ago. His wife Mariana posted a message on her Instagram stories and said: “I want to thank you for every loving and comforting message, for every prayer during this difficult time we are going through. I haven’t been able to read all the messages yet, but when I feel better, I will respond to each one. Thank you.”
