Aziayh Scott, 23, is accused of killing Quayshawn Wilson, who was found breathing at the Walmart in Thomaston on May 29 and taken to Pen Bay Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The medical examiner’s office ruled the death a homicide and listed the cause of death as blunt force trauma.

Scott made his first appearance before Knock County Superior Court Judge Patrick Larson via Zoom from the Knox County Jail. He was arrested last month by Louisiana State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service’s Maine Violent Offender Task Force in connection with the toddler’s death at a Walmart in Thomaston, according to state police.

Manslaughter, under Maine state law, means that someone either negligently caused a death or intentionally caused a death after being provoked by extreme anger or fear.

At his initial hearing on Monday, Scott’s bail was set at $250,000 and Larson ordered him to have no contact with any person or any minor under the age of 18. He was not required to confess. An affidavit that could provide further details about the case was sealed Monday.

Scott, originally from Louisiana, had recently moved to Maine, where he lived in Owls Head with his girlfriend and toddler. When investigators visited their home in June, they learned the couple had returned to Louisiana, where Scott was then arrested.
