LANSING, Michigan (WLNS) – Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as her presidential candidate, one day after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race.

While an event in the state capital On Monday morning, News 8’s sister station 6 News asked Whitmer if she would be willing to accept the vice presidential position if it were offered to her.

“No, I’m not going anywhere,” Whitmer told 6 News.

In a written statement, the governor supported Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate.

“Today, I am thrilled to endorse Kamala Harris for President of the United States.

“With Vice President Harris, Michigan voters have a presidential candidate they can count on: She will focus on cutting their costs, restoring their freedoms, bringing jobs and supply chains back to the U.S. from abroad, and building an economy that works for working people. She’s a former prosecutor, a champion of reproductive freedom, and I know she has Michigan’s back.

“This stands in stark contrast to Donald Trump, a convicted felon who incited violence, overturned Roe, attacked our auto industry on which hard-working families depend, left office after losing 100,000 manufacturing jobs, and bankrupted our economy during his last term in the White House.

“Vice President Harris has my full support.

“So, Michigan, let’s get to work. We can’t let Donald Trump near the White House. Let’s go!”
