Packers quarterback Jordan Love stays away from training camp

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love will hold out until he and the team have reached a new agreement, General Manager Brian Gutekunst revealed in a speech to journalists on Monday (22 July) about the athlete‘S Matt Schneidman.

Gutekunst said he expected an agreement in the next few days, but noted that negotiations on large deals take time.

“I think we’re close,” Gutekunst said of Schneidman. “It’s not unexpected and we’ll work to make it happen. Hopefully he doesn’t miss too much time.”

Love, 25, was selected by the Packers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft as the quarterback’s successor Aaron Rodgers and took over as the team’s starter in 2023 after the franchise granted Rodgers’ request to be traded to the New York Jets last offseason.

Love had a stellar 2023 season, throwing for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while leading the Packers to a 9-8 record in the regular season, as well as 466 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions in two playoff games. ESPN‘S Jeremy Fowler said the Packers are aware that an annual salary of $50 million is likely the lower limit for a long-term contract.

“The mood is positive right now,” Fowler said. “But not much has happened yet in terms of an agreement. It’s going to take some time. When (camp starts), their negotiators and their officials will all be together and they’ll … try to work out a plan.”
