To celebrate the release of their brand new single “Underground,” we asked sensational Japanese girl group f5ve (Rui, Ruri, Sayaka, Kaede, and Miyuu) to take a trip down memory lane and answer our “My Life in 20” questions.

20) What movie could you watch 20 times without getting bored?

Rui: Suicide Squad

Rui: I met “f5ve” and became “f5ve”.

Ruri: When our former group’s record (Happiness) reached number one on the Japanese charts.

Sayaka: I got to do an arena tour for the first time (E-Girls). I learned so much about live tours, myself, and how to navigate being in a girl group!

Kaede: When I was 18, I did my first arena tour in Japan (E-Girls)! That made me realize how much I love performing and it really motivated me to do my best as an artist!

Miyuuu: The first time our former group (Happiness) reached number one on the Japanese charts!

17) Who (celebrity or non-celebrity) did you have a crush on when you were 17? What made you fall in love with that person?

Rui: Eijiro Kirishima (from My Hero Academia) because he is cool and nice.

Ruri: Avril Lavigne. That’s when I started listening to rock music.

Sayaka: Koharu Sugawara. I love her dance style and how she expresses herself. I’ve been taking lessons!

Kaede: Justin Bieber!! I like him since he released “Baby”. I love his voice and his songs and I also remember going to his documentary alone.

Miyuuu: Taeyeon from Girls Generation. People around me told me that we looked alike, which sparked my interest and led me to imitate her often!

16) What do you remember about your 16th birthday?

Rui: I drank boba tea with my mom and friends who threw a surprise party for me!

Ruri: My birthday celebration with my family in Osaka before moving to Tokyo.

Sayaka: I was living with the members of my former group, they came to my room at midnight sharp to party!

Kaede: I made 16 wishes!

Miyuuu: My family took me to the aquarium!

14) What TV show were you obsessed with when you were 14 and why?

Rui: Shimura Zoo And Otameshika! (Both Japanese shows)

Ruri: Music channel (Japanese music show)

Sayaka: Hanerunotobira (Japanese comedy show) It was the time when I moved to Tokyo and it helped me talk to new friends and make contacts.

Kaede: The heirs (Korean Drama) The story was interesting and I couldn’t stop watching it! Since then, I’ve been addicted to Korean dramas!

Miyuuu: Picaruno-Teiri (Japanese comedy show)

13) 13 is an unlucky number for some. Are you superstitious about anything?

Rui: If I have an important task the next day, I hit my pillow before going to bed and wish myself good luck.

Ruri: Before I go on stage, I put on a lot of perfume to boost my confidence!

Sayaka: I cover my stomach when it thunders and I put on perfume before I go on stage to feel relaxed.

Kaede: In Japan, cutting your nails at night is said to bring bad luck.

Miyuuu: When it thunders, I hide my stomach and spray perfume before I go on stage.

Rui: Blood Pop! I want to be a brilliant music creator and produce music.

Kaede: FBI profiler. I find it exciting to see criminal minds and confront a serial killer.

11) Who was your best friend when you were 11? And what is the first thing you remember about that person?

Rui: My dog, who I met at the pet store. Through all the good and bad memories, she was always by my side.

Ruri: My friend Rui! We have been friends since childhood and have spent a lot of time together.

Sayaka: My friend Lisa! We always played together after school and I remember that it was when I first realized that I was allergic to dogs that we played with her dog. But I still love dogs!!

Kaede: My classmate. I don’t remember how we met, but we played every day 🙂

Miyuuu: My friend Shiori. We were on our way and coming back from dance class together.

10) What bad habit do you want to get rid of in 10 years?

Rui: I can’t do anything until the last minute. I’m such a procrastinator!!!

Sayaka: When I’m out with my friends, I often drink too much and want to become the person who can finish when everyone else leaves.

Kaede: I want to stop dyeing my hair once a month, lmao.

9) What was your biggest fear when you were 9 years old? And did you have any funny encounters because of it?

Ruri: I am afraid of birds because pigeons threw droppings on me on the way home from school.

Sayaka: Tokyo. I’m from Miyazaki and I remember being overwhelmed to be in such a big city with so many people.

Kaede: My mom. It was scary to see my mom getting angry, so I ran across the living room!

Miyuuu: My dance teacher. She was very strict and intimidating back then. The lessons were hard.

Rui: Artist
