Saddle Lake’s Tia Wood is making waves in the music scene, releasing a single and locally shot music video on June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day.
“Today, Plains Cree and Coast Salish singer-songwriter Tia Wood releases her highly anticipated debut album, Dirt Roads, on Sony Music Entertainment Canada,” said a press release from Sony Music.

Sony Music’s press release states: “In 2020, Tia followed her wanderlust and headed to Los Angeles, turning a two-week stay into a semi-permanent move. The result is ‘Dirt Roads,’ a song about the thrill of ‘sunny days and happy faces in the land where dreams are made,’ but also about the feeling of being homeless so far from home. ‘Should I take my braids out or leave them in? They look at me like I’m a Martian,’ Wood sings stirringly, conjuring images and emotions that are relatable to anyone who has left home for a fresh start in the city, especially Indigenous youth, while in LA Tia struggled with the loss of access to her culture and traditions.”
