Pro-Trump rap song “Trump Trump Baby” removed from streaming due to copyright dispute

A rap song celebrating Donald Trump was removed from streaming services due to copyright infringement.

“Trump Trump Baby,” a rap song by Trump supporter Forgiato Blow that was played at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, was removed from YouTube after Sony Music, which recently acquired the publishing rights to Queen’s catalog, filed a copyright lawsuit.

The song is very similar to Vanilla Ice’s 1990 hit “Ice Ice Baby”, which in turn contains samples from Queen and David Bowie’s 1981 classic “Under Pressure”.

A spokesperson for Vanilla Ice confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Forgiato Blow had made a request to release the sample, but Sony had removed the track.

The spokesperson added that the status of the release process for all affected songwriters was unclear.

Blow re-uploaded “Trump Trump Baby” to YouTube on Friday afternoon, with the instrumental section reworked to remove the “Under Pressure” bass line.

The music video also features Amber Rose, who spoke at the RNC on Monday night.

The pro-Trump rapper told EW that it wasn’t his first sample of the song, but that he only got into trouble when he added the former president’s name.

“I did this song years ago with Rick Ross & Vanilla Ice. It’s called Vanilla Sprite Remix,” Blow said in an email.

“For some reason, ‘Trump Trump Baby’ became a big issue after it was played at the RNC. These days, it’s illegal to mention Trump’s name anywhere. The song is back on the air now.”

Representatives for Sony Music did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.

Ice, Blow and Ross collaborated on “Vanilla Sprite Remix” in 2020, which also includes the “Under Pressure” sample.

However, since “Trump Trump Baby” is a new recording, Blow probably had to re-release the sample, even though it had already been released for “Vanilla Sprite Remix.”

In a follow-up email, Blow stated that he was not sure “who made the call to remove the song.”

“I submitted the sample information and Sony didn’t even seem to share it with the other writers. I sent the song to Vanilla Ice the day it was released,” he wrote.

“Now because of this copyright lawsuit, they’re removing all my music from my distribution, so I’m going to lose my entire catalog. I’ve been banned countless times for supporting Trump; I guess if I rapped about guns and drugs, they wouldn’t care.” (He did not specify what other songs were removed or from where.)

Blow posted about his latest song on social media on Friday.

“Patriots I need your help!!!!!” he wrote. “Trump Trump Baby was removed after being played by the RNC. I’m waging a culture war against the music industry and big tech. Please re-download it, let’s get it back in the top 10.”

Vanilla Ice told TMZ that he did not give permission to sample “Ice Ice Baby” in “Trump Trump Baby,” and that the publisher who owns the rights to the song also did not approve its use in Blow’s song.

Ice himself was once threatened with legal action for copyright infringement on “Under Pressure”.

The case was ultimately settled out of court and all four members of Queen as well as David Bowie are now listed as songwriters of “Ice Ice Baby.”

In the original version of the song, which was archived by unauthorized users on social media, Forgiato Blow sings the chorus “We’re voting Donald Trump, baby/America needs saving/We’re voting Trump, Trump, baby/November 5th, we’re going crazy” in a cadence similar to the chorus of “Ice Ice Baby”.

The track also features the distinctive bassline from Vanilla Ice’s song, which is virtually identical to the bassline from “Under Pressure” except for one additional note.

Blow also previously collaborated with Ice on the 2021 track “All the Way In.”

Ice performed at a New Year’s Eve party at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago mansion in 2020.

However, he told TMZ that he would also campaign for Joe Biden and said he was largely apolitical.

Blow’s song also includes lyrics such as “I pledge allegiance and vote for Trump/There’s a red wave coming, you wanna surf or what?/I trust God to drive out the devil/Lock Joe Biden up and throw away the key” and “Sleepy Joe is a fraud/Stop the carnage in the Oval Office/The media is the enemy of the people.”

The musician spoke about the performance of his song at the RNC in an interview with Fox News on Friday.

“I am the Donald Trump of rap,” he said in an interview with Fox & Friends First.

“When I started really following him, I realized how corrupt it is against him, and I had to go through the same thing – trying to take me down, block me, take away my social media…”
