Chris Kamara informs fans after announcing apraxia diagnosis

Chris Kamara has revealed that he is undergoing speech therapy and thanked his fans for their support following his apraxia diagnosis.

The Sky Sports The presenter and former footballer spoke about his condition last week after viewers noticed that he was slurring his speech.

Speaking of Good morning, Great Britain On Friday (March 25) he announced that he was overwhelmed by the great support.

“Today is a good day. Today I feel good, I think. I don’t know how I sound, but I seem to be doing well,” he said.

“But on Saturday I did a report for Sky without knowing it, as I’m not really sure how this comes across. When I explain my apraxia, it’s as if we take for granted the fact that it’s comfortable, easy and natural when we think and speak.

“When my apraxia is bad, the signals from the brain are no longer transmitted to the mouth, so it speaks more slowly. Sometimes it even slurs the words. So people look and think, ‘Is he OK? Is he drunk?'”

The 64-year-old told viewers that he is working with a speech therapist to treat the disorder.

Kamara shared his diagnosis with fans over the weekend after an appearance on Football Saturday.

He tweeted: “Just wanted to let a few of you who tweeted me today know that I’m doing reasonably well.

“In addition to my thyroid problem, I have developed apraxia of speech and am working on getting my speech back to normal.

“Some days it can be a little slow and other days it’s normal. Hopefully I can do it!”
