There is no cast for Lara Croft yet for the Amazon Prime series “Tomb Raider”

Amazon announced in May that it was developing a new TV series based on Tomb Raider. The scripts are being written by Fleabag creator and Indiana Jones star Phoebe Waller-Bridge. But a few months later – and over a year after the first announcement – Amazon still hasn’t found its Lara Croft.

Amazon MGM Studios television chief Vernon Sanders said in an interview with The Wrap that the team has not yet begun production and will likely spend the rest of the year preparing for next year. Part of this preparation will be the casting of the lead role: “We have to find our Lara Croft, so the worldwide search will begin sooner rather than later.”

In fancasts, the former Scream star can be seen in the role of Lara Croft and Barrera seems to be the perfect casting for the role of the action heroine.

Sanders hasn’t revealed who is in his sights or what story the series will tell, and with production set to begin in 2024, we probably won’t find out for a while. But while we wait, there are plenty of fan-casts to delve into.

Melissa Barrera is at the top of everyone’s list after rumors surfaced that she was in the running. If you’ve seen the Scream movies, you know why everyone wants to see her fight dinosaurs all over the world – she kicks some serious butt in a tank top.

Another popular option is to bring back Alicia Vikander from the 2018 film, as many felt she deserved “a better script” and her “casting was great.”

Others have suggested Scarlett Johansson, Kaitlyn Dever (who plays Abby in The Last of Us), Sydney Sweeney, Amita Suman (who said she would “love to be in Tomb Raider”), Daisy Edgar Jones and Hayley Atwell, who voices her in the upcoming Netflix animated series.

There are many popular suggestions, Barrera is one of the most vocal, but since the search is just beginning, we can only wait and see.
