“Best pitcher since JJ McCarthy”

“Best pitcher since JJ McCarthy”

Michigan football fans are excited about the signing of top-100 quarterback Brady Hart, and rightly so.

Not only was Hart the third top-100 signing in the last two months for Michigan’s new head coach Sherrone Moore – after the Wolverines only received one in the last two recruiting classes – but he also brings another elite quarterback to the roster.

Jadyn Davis has had some standout moments this spring, but Michigan football also has a verbal commitment from 4-star quarterback Carter Smith, who is a dangerous dual-threat option.

But Hart brings a talent of his own. Like McCarthy, he had offers from some big names, most notably Ohio State, which offered Hart just one day before he committed to UM.

Hart is 6’4″, 190 pounds and is ranked as the No. 92 prospect for the class of 2026 according to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings. He is also the seventh-best quarterback overall. However, he is one of the younger quarterbacks for 2026 and has not yet reached his full potential.

Hart could easily develop into a five-star talent. He is being compared to JJ McCarthy, the Michigan football legend, and here is what EJ Holland, a Michigan recruiting expert, said about Hart’s potential:

“When you look at the film, you see a big, athletic pocket passer,” Holland said. “He’s 6’4, 190 pounds. He fills out his frame really well. He can throw the long ball. His passes have a lot of swing. He’s the best arm talent Michigan has landed since JJ McCarthy. When you look at Carter Smith, he has pure arm strength. But when I say arm talent, Brady Hart has the arm strength, the ball placement and the accuracy. He’s a more polished passer. Well, Carter can do a lot more with his legs, but Brady is also very athletic. I think they complement each other in that Carter is a dynamic athlete and Brady is an advanced passer with some potential left.

“The Hart-Smith combination is truly a dream combination.”

Michigan football has been very successful in recruiting for the quarterback position and we will see what that means for the rest of the class of 2026 that can now be built around Hart.
