Michigan police officer shot dead in line of duty

WAYNE COUNTY, MI – Investigators say a Melvindale police officer was shot and killed in the line of duty Sunday.

The shooting occurred Sunday, July 21, near the 17,000 block of Clarann ​​Street in the city of Melvindale, where officers responded to a 911 call from a car wash at 17344 Clarann ​​Street, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Police officer Mohamed Said, 23, was killed in the shooting, the news agency reported. Said was shot while pursuing people.

The suspect is still at large and the manhunt is ongoing.

This is the third fatal shooting of a police officer in Michigan in the last month. Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy Bradley Reckling died on June 22 in what the sheriff described as an ambush, and Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Deputy William Butler Jr. was killed on June 27 while assisting with a traffic stop.
