Andhra Pradesh: Jagan Mohan Reddy takes action and causes uproar

YSR Congress Party leader and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had already gone into action mode on the first day of the budget session of the state assembly to grab the attention of the people.

This is a repeat of what the Telugu Desam Party led by N Chandrababu Naidu had done during the Jagan Mohan Reddy government: they came to the rally with black flags and placards and had a confrontation with the stewards and the police inside the rally ground.

Jagan and his party MPs obstructed Governor Abdul Nazeer’s address to the joint session of the Assembly and the Council and chanted slogans against the government for alleged law and order violations in the state. They later left the Assembly.

Earlier, Jagan and his party MPs came in a procession from the fire station to the state assembly, wearing black patches and scarves and holding placards with the slogan “Save Democracy”.

However, they were intercepted by the police at the entrance of the assembly. The police tore up the placards and papers of the YSRCP MPs and MLAs and tore them. Jagan confronted the police and asked who had given them this authority.

The YSRCP MPs expressed their deep displeasure at the conduct of the police at the entrance to the assembly.

Jagan said police brutality would not last forever and issued a stern warning that people must remember their duty to protect democracy and not undermine it.

Jagan highlighted the lion badge on police caps, saying it symbolised the protection of democracy, not its destruction.

He questioned the right of the police to confiscate and tear up the papers in the possession of the MLAs and MLCs and demanded that they be held accountable for their actions.
