This vintage video of Elizabeth Taylor doing her makeup is INCREDIBLE

If you’re like me, you’ve worshiped Elizabeth Taylor since you first saw her in the movies. National Velvet.

I always went to sleep wishing I could wake up with Taylor’s violet eyes, each with two rows of lashes (a most fortunate genetic mutation!). She embodied the old Hollywood style – effortlessly glamorous and chic. I stayed up late every summer watching her movies on TCM (like all kids, right?) and tried to memorize her every move, hoping to copy her and one day be as mysterious and sexy as she was. Spoiler alert: That didn’t happen.

So when a video surfaced online of her silently yet poetically applying eye makeup, I knew it would be more than my little brain could handle.

It looks like the kind of brush that comes with a small drugstore eye shadow. In my own shaky paws, it would be an ineffective mess.

Liz freshens up her eyeliner and effortlessly creates a dramatic cat eye look without the help of a traditional eyeliner.

WHO CAN DO THIS? It’s impossible. I died.

She gives the camera a cheeky little look and applies pale eyeshadow to her lids, deliberately highlighting the inner corners to brighten and open her eyes despite the dark eyeliner. Oh, you need some depth? No problem, Liz simply applies dark eyeshadow to the crease of her eyelids, making her eyes appear deeper and larger.

In a world where contouring is king and those of us with less-than-stellar makeup skills often feel left out, this is a nice reminder that you can add glamour with even the most basic of tools and in under a minute.

There is nothing left in the world except Liz’s eyes.
