Former Belleville High School football star and Michigan football defensive back Andre Seldon Jr. died Saturday at the age of 22 from apparent drowning at a dam in Utah.

Officials with the Cache County Sheriff’s Office initially declared a search and rescue mission underway around 2:20 p.m. Saturday after “a young man was observed jumping off the cliffs into the water and not resurfacing.”

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the sheriff’s office confirmed that the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team found the man, later identified as Seldon, underwater in Porcupine Reservoir.

Seldon began his football career for Michigan and enrolled in Ann Arbor in January 2020. He played two seasons with the Wolverines, making one appearance in 2021 and 2022 before transferring to New Mexico State for the next two seasons and finally transferring to Utah State this past offseason.

The Utah State football program confirmed Seldon’s death Sunday morning and said it was mourning the loss of its student-athlete.

The Cache County Sheriff’s Office said the initial investigation “leads us to believe this was a tragic accident as multiple witnesses are reporting the same information.”
