Brazilian singer Ayres Sasaki has reportedly died at the age of 35 from an electric shock after being hugged by a drenched fan.

On July 13, the musician was reportedly performing a concert at the Solar Hotel in Salinopolis, Brazil, when a soaking wet fan hugged him.

Sasaki then reportedly suffered an electric shock that led to his death, Billboard Brazil reported.

The Hotel Solar, the venue where he performed, released a statement after his death expressing its condolences and support to his family.

The message, translated from Portuguese, reads: “Hotel Solar deeply regrets the loss of its beloved Ayres Sasaki. Since yesterday, we have been fully committed to supporting his family and taking the necessary measures.”

“We are in direct contact with your family and offer the necessary support during this difficult time.”

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of Ayres Sasaki during this difficult time.”

According to Billboard Brazil, the Civil Police of Pará is investigating the case.

The newspaper received a statement from the police, which said: “The Civil Police informs that the death of Ayres Augusto Sasaki Matos is being investigated by the Salinópolis Police Station. Witnesses are being interviewed and expert opinions have been requested to assist the investigation.”

The Brazilian newspaper Diário do Pará reported that Sasaki suffered an electric shock while playing the guitar during his performance.

ISTOÉ Gente shared a message from Sasaki’s widow Mariana Sasaki, whom he married in October last year.

“I want to thank you for every loving and comforting message, for every prayer in this difficult time we are going through. It is not our job to understand God’s plans, but it is certain that His will is always good, perfect and pleasing,” she reportedly wrote in her Instagram story.

“I ask you to continue to pray. We get our livelihood from God, prayers, friends and family. I haven’t been able to read all the messages yet, but when I’m better I will respond to each one. Thank you.”

Sasaki was honored, including by photographer Raphael Macedo, who recalled their “long-standing friendship.”

“I’m sure you want to be remembered for your voice, your joy and your friendship! May God receive you with open arms my brother @sasaki.cantor. Rest in peace!” he wrote on Instagram.

Several fans commented “Rest in peace” under Sasaki’s last Instagram post, which he shared in December last year.
