Sabrina Carpenter breaks her silence about her new song “Skin” amid rumors about Joshua Bassett and Olivia Rodrigo

Sabrina Carpenter finally comments on the ongoing speculation surrounding her newly released single “Skin”.

The singer took to Instagram on Sunday, January 24, to clarify the song, which some assumed was a comment on the alleged love triangle between herself, Joshua Bassett And Olivia Rodrigo.

In the post, Sabrina thanked fans for listening to “Skin,” which was released on January 22, and said she was grateful for people who “opened up” to the lyrics. This follows widespread chatter on social media that her song was recorded in response to Olivia’s recent hit “Driver’s License.”

“A few lines in a (great) song didn’t bother me and I wrote a diss track about it,” Sabrina said. “I was at a turning point in my life for a myriad of reasons, so I was inspired to do what I normally do to cope: write something I wish I could have told myself sooner.”

There is continued speculation that he and Olivia started dating after they met on the set of High School Musical: The Musical: The Seriesthe Disney+ show in which they star. There was talk on social media that Joshua dated Sabrina after his relationship with Olivia, and fans pointed to “driver’s license” as obvious evidence, with lyrics about heartbreak and a line specifically referring to “that blonde girl.”

Among the lines in “Skin” that seem to refer to the “driver’s license” is one that reads: “Don’t drive yourself crazy.”

17-year-old Olivia told Billboard last week that she understood the “curiosity” surrounding who her own hit might be about, but that she felt that was “actually the least important part of the song.”
