After backing Lamar Jackson over Jordan Love, Cam Newton predicts Packers QB’s ‘unstoppable’ game team

After backing Lamar Jackson over Jordan Love, Cam Newton predicts Packers QB’s ‘unstoppable’ game team

They say that great minds think alike. Maybe that’s why Cam Newton and Jordan Love agree. Both quarterbacks were asked to “Unstoppable Games” against NFL defenses and their player selection is remarkably similar. Well, almost similar. You know Cam Newton is quick to give his opinion on football, and for the most part he hasn’t spared Jordan Love on his podcast. 4th & 1 with Cam Newton.

Jordan Love drew his play on a small board with his favorite letters X, Y, Z, F and H. Before we get to Newton’s remarks, let’s describe these letters for those new to the sport.

  • X-Receiver
  • Y – Tight End
  • Z-Receiver
  • F-Option route (recipient)
  • H-Runningback (Dummy Route)

Jordan’s presentation was in the form of a wheel route with slight modifications at certain positions. Newton, meanwhile, took time to adjust his name list. Newton’s entire game revolves around Tyreek Hill as the main man because he believes no one can beat the Cheetah in Cover 2 or Cover 3 defenses. He described Love’s game as “typical” of a modern QB, but he knew the game inside and out. That being said, Newton chose guys like Kupp, McCaffrey and Adams for an option route because they “Cunning.”

Do you think Cam Newton’s prediction about Jordan Love will come true?

Cam Newton (Positions) player Jordan Love (Positions) player
X Calvin Johnson/Randy Moss X Romeo Doubs
Y Travis Kelce Y Travis Kelce
Z Tyreek Hill Z Tyreek Hill
F Davante Adams/Cooper Kupp/Christian McCaffrey F Davante Adams
H Christian McCaffrey/Saquon Barkley H Josh Jacobs

CMC, Barkley would do a great job on dummy routes because any player on the dummy route is good at catching the ball because that’s not really a RB’s strength. So even if the defense does an empty check on H, other players will be free. If they don’t, the RB will get a ball and in Cam Newton’s words, that’s a fail-safe option. It’s worth noting here that Travis Kelce, Davante Adams, and Tyreek Hill are common on both lists because honestly, these guys are tough to defend and they’re arguably the best.

But even though the duo thinks similarly, Cam Newton still doesn’t believe Jordan Love is close to winning a Super Bowl. His vote could leave the Green Bay Packers quarterback with a grudge. Maybe Lamar Jackson can do these things better and if he showed Newton his playbook, the quarterback might be impressed. Maybe Jackson’s play impressed the former Panthers quarterback and he told Shannon Sharpe why he believes Lamar Jackson can be the first to win a Super Bowl.

Cam Newton would rely on Lamar Jackson instead of Brock Purdy and Joe Burrow

Shannon Sharpe asked Cam Newton a simple question and received a sharp answer from the former NFL quarterback. “Who do you think will win the Super Bowl first, Jordan Love, Brock Purdy, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, Dak Prescott, Jalen Hurts?” For Newton the answer was simple.

“Lamar (Jackson)”, Newton said without a shadow of a doubt. The Baltimore Ravens lost the AFC Championship game to the Kansas City Chiefs 17-10 despite defeating playoff-worthy teams like the 49ers, Rams, Bengals and others. Not to mention how the Ravens swept the Miami Dolphins 56-19 at M&T Bank Stadium. Jackson even won the MVP award in the 2023 season.

But Newton believes that Jackson can triumph over everyone if he can control his impulses. “I think Lamar and the Ravens just have to figure out how to win the ugly games,” said Newton, adding: “Sometimes when I look at Lamar, I think, ‘Brother, just stop thinking.'” and points out that thinking too much can sometimes ruin game-winning drives.

In the championship game, Patrick Mahomes threw for fewer yards (241) than Jackson (272), but Mahomes threw those passes with accuracy, while Lamar Jackson missed nearly half of his passes and went 20-37. The difference is that Mahomes completed 30 of the 39 passes he threw in that game. So, yes, winning “ugly” games should be a priority for Lamar Jackson and the Ravens this year.

Maybe Jordan Love can take the same advice after his loss to the San Francisco 49ers and help his team achieve glory.
