Birth mother shoots touching video for her son before giving him up for adoption: “Purely out of love”

Most birth mothers who give their children up for adoption have a valid reason for their decision. Insufficient finances, bad timing, and emotional or physical inability to raise children well are just a few of them. However, most of the time, people don’t get to hear the birth mother’s side of the story behind such a life-changing decision. When one mother, Hannah Mongie, recorded a video for her son before giving him up for adoption and posted it on YouTube, it sparked tears online. In the video, the mother explained to her baby the reason behind her decision to place him with a particular family.

The mom began the video by introducing the baby, Taggart Kaden Marsh. “This is for you, Tag. I made this video so you know how much I love you,” Mongie said. She told her young son how she met his father in 2013. “We texted while he was on a mission, and he came home in April 2015,” she recalled. She recounted how they dated for a time before she found out she was pregnant. “He loved you so much from the beginning,” Mongie told her son. She even told him the story of how she first heard his heartbeat during her eight-week checkup.

“Papa Kaden wasn’t there. He was in class. So I texted him and he ran out. He was so excited to hear that,” Mongie said. “From then on, he was overjoyed. He was hoping for a boy so he could teach him baseball.” The mother burst into tears and said, “Two days after he heard your heartbeat, his heart stopped.” The woman could hardly process the fact that she might have to place her baby with another family after the death of her boyfriend Kaden. “You were my last piece of Kaden,” she continued through tears. “One day I woke up and just knew you were meant to be with someone else.” She remembered searching for families and finding one she thought would be perfect for her son.

However, the family told her that another birth mother had chosen her, so she went to adoption.com and eventually found Tag’s parents, Brad and Emily Marsh. “They were beyond anything I could have asked for,” Mongie said. The mother loved the couple. After two weeks, she told them to adopt Taggart. “Over time, your mother Emily and I became really good friends. She is one of my best friends now,” she continued. “My entire pregnancy, I waited for the two days I would spend with you,” Mongie revealed. She filmed the video in the last hour before adopting her son. “I made this decision purely out of love. Because I knew what you needed. And that was a mommy and a daddy,” she told him.

She made a video instead of writing a letter so her son could see for himself in the future how much his mother loved him. She also told him how excited his late father was to have him and that the couple had been thinking about names for some time. “I want you to know that your mommy Emily loves you too, even though she hasn’t met you yet,” Mongie revealed. “This is an OPEN adoption. Thanks to his wonderful mommy and daddy, I get to see him all the time,” the woman revealed in the video’s caption.
