“World famous” fish bar in North Yorkshire is one of the best fish’n’chips restaurants in the UK

A fish and chip shop in North Yorkshire has been named one of the best in Britain by The Times thanks to its “consistently fabulous” dishes.

The “world famous” fish bar (as described on their website) is located in Scarborough, less than a minute’s walk from the seafront – can you guess which fish and chip shop it is?

The Times said of its new chippy list: “Our annual special of the best beaches is the result of a 5,583-mile drive across Britain.”

“Hundreds of beaches are being surveyed to determine what we think is the best in the country. It’s hard work and the only fuel on the coast is fish and chips.”

It continues: “In these top-class chippies, a fish dish is often served with a variety of regional accompaniments: black pudding cakes, fried oysters, breaded haggis and the poor man’s caviar – also known as fried cod roe.

“There’s definitely more to a fish dish than just cod and chips. Below you’ll find our selection of the best places to enjoy it.”

Why is The Tunny Club one of the best fish and chip shops?

The Times commented: “No other snack bar on the Beaches tour can top this one.

“It seems the love is reciprocated by the owners of the Tunny Club, whose walls are adorned with framed photographs of John Wayne, David Niven and Errol Flynn – celebrities who came to Scarbados to fish for tuna in the area’s heyday – as well as Chris Haslam of The Times and Sunday Times himself.
