CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Guardians (59-37) and the San Diego Padres (50-50) will play against each other again in front of a full house on Saturday.

In Friday’s series opener, the first game after the MLB All-Star break, the Guardians won a close game late to beat the Padres 7-0 and maintain their record as the American League’s best player.

The Padres defeated the Guardians 7-0 on Saturday night after the Guards beat the Pads 7-0.

San Diego’s pitching was outstanding on Saturday. Dylan Cease pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out 10 and limiting the Guardians to one hit and one walk. Jeremiah Estrada pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Yuki Matsui pitched a scoreless ninth.

The Padres scored four runs in the eighth inning against Guardians relief pitcher Spencer Howard to make it 7-0. David Peralta hit a solo home run, Luis Campusano singled Ha-Seong Kim home and Jake Cronenworth hit a two-run home run that also scored Campusano.

Dylan Cease pitched seven scoreless innings with ten strikeouts. He allowed one hit and one walk.

Padres starter Dylan Cease limited the Guardians to one hit and one walk in six shutout innings. Cease has nine strikeouts and threw 81 pitches (53 strikes).

The Padres lead 3-0 against the Guardians at the start of the seventh inning.

The Padres made their breakthrough against Gavin Williams with three runs in the fourth inning.

With one out, Jackson Merrill hit a double to left, David Peralta walked, Ha-Seong Kim singled to center, Luis Campusano singled to left to score Merrill, and Luis Arraez walked to bring in Peralta.

Williams struck out Jurickson Profar and then hit Jake Cronenworth with a pitch to force Kim to come in.

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt took Williams out of the game and called on Pedro Avila to face Manny Machado with two outs and all the bases loaded. Avila struck out Machado.

Guardians center fielder Tyler Freeman hit a triple to left-center field with one out in the third inning, but was left standing after Padres starter Dylan Cease struck out Bo Naylor and Steven Kwan got a flyout to left fielder Jurickson Profar. Cease struck out Daniel Schneemann to start the third inning.

Luis Arraez opened the third with a single, but was unable to advance as Williams took the team out of the game.

The Padres have two hits and the Guardians have no hits in two innings.

Guardians starter Gavin Williams hit Jurickson Profar with a pitch in the first inning and allowed singles by Xander Bogaerts and David Peralta in the second. Williams has three strikeouts, striking out Jake Cronenworth and Manny Machado in the first and Jackson Merrill in the second.

The Guardians’ defense helped Williams get out of a first-and-third situation with one out in the second inning. Bogaerts was picked off by Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez during a rundown that included throws from Williams and catcher Bo Naylor, and shortstop Daniel Schneemann dove and threw the ball to second baseman Andres Gimenez to strike out Ha-Seong Kim.

Padres starter Dylan Cease also has three strikeouts against Angel Martinez, Josh Naylor and David Fry.

The Guardians and Padres are scheduled to kick off at 7:10 p.m. ET.

The game will be televised on Bally Sports Great Lakes and broadcast on the radio on WTAM (1100 AM) and WMMS (100.7 FM).

Right-handers Gavin Williams and Dylan Cease are expected to start today for the Guardians and Padres, respectively. Williams has a record of 0-1 and a 3.77 ERA and is making his fourth start this season since returning from injury. He has nine strikeouts in 14.1 innings. Cease is making his 21st start in his first season with the Padres after shining with the White Sox. He comes in with a record of 8-8 and a 3.99 ERA with 149 strikeouts in 115 innings.
