Harley-Davidson of Michigan City celebrates 25th anniversary

Harley-Davidson of Michigan City celebrates 25th anniversary

On Saturday, July 20, Harley-Davidson in Michigan City hosted a day-long celebration. The store invited the entire community to a day of fun to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Jeff Haggerty, general manager at Harley-Davidson in Michigan City, talks about what an important milestone this is for the business and the people they have interacted with over the years.

“It’s great for us to have the opportunity to celebrate this achievement of 25 years in business,” said Haggerty. “It’s been a fun time to say the least, but what we do wouldn’t be possible without the support of our employees and customers who have been a part of our events.”

Haggerty really appreciates the strong growth of this community over the years as it has generated a lot of interest in their events and in spreading more knowledge about bikes.

“I’ve seen some new faces and a lot of familiar faces from the beginning,” Haggerty said. “I’m looking forward to the next 25 years with this business and Harley-Davidson as a whole.”

The event was filled with a variety of activities. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in a bike show where the top three finishers received a prize. Customers could also participate in a power meter shootout to test the power and torque of their Harley-Davidson motorcycles. There was a “Willie G” lookalike contest in the store. Most attendees enjoyed refreshments and listened to live music from the Head Honchos.

“I think it really brings the community together to celebrate our anniversary with a lot of special events,” Haggerty said. “People can also check out the other bikes and there are a lot of dealers here. They sell a lot of products that we don’t have, so it’s great to see creativity play a role in our event.”

In addition to the festivities, it was also a perfect day for the Harley-Davidson community to celebrate. Fred Akins has been a long-time participant of their events and was happy to be able to join the party on such a warm summer day.

“I’ve been riding motorcycles since 1980, but I’ve been riding Harley-Davidsons since 2000,” Akins said. “I always enjoy coming to these events because everyone is pretty down to earth. Since it’s the 25th anniversary celebration, I didn’t want to miss it.”

As one of the first Harley-Davidson riders in this community, Akins is fascinated by the differences between riders and their motorcycles over the past 25 years.

“There’s always been a great camaraderie, but it’s pretty cool to see how things have evolved over the years,” Akins said. “A lot of people come through and see that the Harley-Davidson community is like a close-knit family. I feel like we’re part of a pretty elite group, and I’m glad to be a part of it.”

Harley-Davidson of Michigan City was pleased with the turnout for the 25th anniversary celebration. Haggerty and his team are always happy to see familiar faces and bring new friends to the community.
