Sweet tooth‘s Gus and The last of us“Ellie and Ellie are the child protagonists of their respective shows, and they both serve similar functions. Aside from their importance in potentially curing the infections that have destroyed their worlds, they are also both children who have never left home before and are excited to venture outside for the first time. Although Ellie is a few years older than Gus and more aware of the dangers lurking outside, she still shares his childlike curiosity about the outside world and finds joy in the little thingslike a book full of puns that she finds. She also quickly connects with other children and although she has a temperamental side, the way she brings joy to others makes Ellie quite endearing.

The last of us And Sweet tooth also addresses the loss of innocence by Ellie and Gus, with both characters facing truly monstrous enemies that threaten to bring out the worst in them. As a hybrid, Gus is subject to humanity’s prejudices against his own kind, blaming them for the disease. In contrast, Ellie is no different from anyone else on the surface, but she is still a vulnerable young girl in a cruel world, and her status as the only person known to be immune to the Cordyceps infection makes her a target. Ellie has already been through some horrific things by the time the audience meets her, but unfortunately her toughest trials are still ahead of her.
