“You can’t throw away your vote!”

“You can’t throw away your vote!”

Former Republican New Jersey governor and longtime Trump critic Chris Christie faced fierce backlash from his co-hosts of “The View” after declaring he would not vote for either former President Donald Trump or President Joe Biden.

After Trump chose JD Vance as his running mate and delivered his acceptance speech at the RNC on Thursday night, Christie argued Friday that the former Republican president had “wasted his opportunity to be a unifying character.” He could have chosen someone like Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin as his running mate.

“I know you’re not voting for Trump. Would you vote for the Democrats?” asked the show’s co-host, Ana Navarro, shortly afterwards.

“At this point, I’m not choosing either of them. I just can’t do it. One guy is completely mentally incapable of doing the job -” Christie replied as the co-hosts fumed.

“But you have to vote!” argued co-host Joy Behar.

“No, I’m going to vote for the bottom list. I don’t have to vote (for the president), no!” Christie said, standing firm as a co-host was heard telling him, “Yes, you do.”

“You can’t throw your vote away! I asked you last time, Chris, and this time you want to sit out?” co-host Sunny Hostin said, drowning him out.

Navarro questioned Christie and said it was ironic that he told Democrats to drop their current presidential candidate while he himself planned not to vote for either.

The former governor said he would stay in office as long as Biden is the Democratic nominee, but he may change his mind if a better frontrunner emerges.

“I’m willing to consider anyone who presents themselves as someone who will make the country better. So far, I’m not exactly encouraged by Kamala Harris’ performance,” he said.

When Hostin asked why he wasn’t a Harris fan, he replied, “Why not? We only have about a minute and thirty. I don’t have enough time.”

Hostin has been one of Harris’s staunchest defenders over the years, arguing that she is criticized because of her black heritage or because she is a woman, and claiming that her much-parodied word salads are actually the result of her legal background rather than gaffes.

After Christie declared that the Biden-Harris ticket would not win in November, Behar asked him if he would be willing to vote for a Harris-Josh Shapiro ticket, with the more moderate Pennsylvania governor running as vice president.

“I don’t know. Let me see what you have to say,” he said.

When several moderators objected to this answer, he stated, “I’m sorry, but I care about what people stand for. I apologize. I’m not going to commit to that in advance! Let them perform and earn my vote! People should earn their vote!”

When Behar said he would definitely vote for Biden the next time they saw him, Christie joked, “I’m voting for you, Joy. I’ll put you on the list!”
