Right Said Fred singer Fred Fairbrass admits to dealing drugs before becoming famous in music

Right Said Fred’s singer, Fred Fairbrass, started dealing drugs before he became famous through music.

The 65-year-old musician, who formed the band with his 68-year-old brother, singer Richard, said he sold cocaine and amphetamines to prostitutes and partygoers from his mini-taxi.

He later made millions with Richard after releasing the 1991 single “I’m Too Sexy,” but opened up about his past in London in the group’s new autobiography, “Still Too Sexy: Surviving Right Said Fred.”

Fred said: “I used to sell speed and coke. In 1982 I was a taxi driver in Fulham and worked nights. In the house I lived in there was a guy who cooked amphetamines.

“So I bought a few grams here and there, at first to stay awake, but then customers came who wanted to buy it. I could deal in the car.

“I was useful because I ended up selling amphetamines from my taxi.

I worked at night because the party people and the hookers liked to buy drugs from me. That was a good way to make a living.

“Even though I was driving around with a lot of speed in my blood, the atmosphere in London at the time seemed quite anarchic, so it didn’t occur to me that it was illegal.

“Fortunately, I was never robbed or caught.”

Former filmmaker Fred also admitted that he gave drugs to a film crew to make them work longer.

He added: “It was much cheaper to give the crew a few lines of coke so they could work late than to bring in a new crew for the night shift.”

Fred and Richard ran a gym when they wrote their debut single imitating bodybuilders and claimed to have earned more than £10 million from “I’m Too Sexy”.

Fred is now said to be worth around £4 million. Richard previously stated that the band received £4 million when Taylor Swift used the melody of “I’m Too Sexy” for her 2017 song “Look What You Made Me Do”.
