Ben Shephard was all smiles as he shared a special moment with his rarely seen father in an adorable Instagram snap, capturing their wonderful day at Wimbledon last week.

The 49-year-old TV favourite, known for his role on This Morning alongside co-host Cat Deeley from Monday to Thursday, with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary filling in on Fridays, has announced he is taking a well-deserved summer break.

The announcement came shortly after he spent one of his days off enjoying the atmosphere at Wimbledon with his dapper father, who turned 80 in March, by his side. Fans were struck by the striking resemblance between the two.

For the prestigious tennis event, Ben dressed smartly in dark trousers, a crisp white shirt, a light blue tie and a grey blazer, while his dapper father wore a striped shirt with matching tie, a black blazer and blue trousers.

Sharing the memory with his 583,000 followers, Ben wrote a touching caption on Instagram: “Had the most amazing day at Wimbledon with the old man. Tennis was great, Pimms delicious, memories priceless, don’t know if it gets any better,” adding a red heart emoji.

The post sparked a playful response from his co-host Cat, 47, who teased him in the comments section, saying: “It doesn’t… apart from toilet breaks and yoga classes. That’s the good stuff xxxxx.” Delighted admirers from the ITV cluster also showered Ben and his dad with compliments on the post, with Andrea McLean adding: “How beautiful” and Laura Tobin chiming in: “That makes me smile.” GMB celeb Kate Garraway also couldn’t resist adding her two cents: “Very handsome boy! And you’re well made up too.”

Following an exciting visit to Wimbledon with his dad, Ben’s brief break comes straight after he and Cat announced they were temporarily stepping away from This Morning, having only recently been welcomed as the show’s new regular presenters. Viewers were told the news with the words: “Thank you for having us here.”

Ben and Cat, who were only introduced to their positions in March, will now disappear from screens until September. Their gap will be filled by a number of replacement presenters, including show favourite Craig Doyle, who will take their vacated places on the series.
