Kansas City artist climbs national music charts with names like Taylor Swift

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – A Kansas City singer and songwriter is making a name for himself nationwide. Sebastian James climbed the Mediabase Top 40 Music Charts for 10 weeks with his first solo song, “American Made.”

“It was everything I could have asked for and more,” said the Park Hill South High graduate.

James shares the list with well-known artists such as Eminem, Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

“It’s crazy. I mean, it’s hard to put it into words,” James said. “All these people who were the focus for a lot of my childhood. So it’s definitely an honor.”

James categorizes his compositions as “feel-good music” – a combination of classic rock’n’roll and the musical sensibility of the Midwest.

But the KC native says music wasn’t always his first love.

“My dad was a singer in the area, so it was a little intimidating at times being the son of someone who was a master of his craft,” James said. “It took me a minute to gain enough confidence to find myself.”

Now James is dancing to his own tune.

The local rocker released his new song “When We Were Young” on Friday.

“This is something I wrote right out of high school with some schoolmates.” James continued, “I knew it was going to be great one day, and it just took a while to finally get it done.”

James hopes to inspire the next generation.

“If you can dream it, you can make it happen. There really are no limits.”
