A new MP who became pregnant at 15 has admitted she was “seduced” by an older man and now wants to be the voice of “all those women who have children in less than ideal circumstances”.

MP Natalie Fleet said her family had a tough time growing up and she was homeless for a while before giving birth to her daughter “at a very young age”.

In an interview with GB News’ Gloria De Piero to be broadcast on Sunday, she said: ‘Back then, when I was 15, I felt full of shame, guilt and responsibility.

“And I was determined to make sure she had as good a life as any parent of any age would have had. That was my firm resolve. I didn’t think about myself or the repercussions.”

But now that her daughter is 23 and “the absolute love of my life,” she can look back and think, “that was not OK,” Ms. Fleet said.

She said: “It was an older man. It was possibly, I mean, today we have terms like ‘personal hygiene’ that didn’t exist back then.

“I didn’t know we were having unprotected sex. I was a child and that’s rape of a minor. You know, we didn’t talk about it back then. I didn’t see myself that way.”

When she told her daughter about the incident, Mrs Fleet was shocked that she could not find any advice for women in her situation.

She said: “There was nothing there. There is no confirmation that anything like this is happening in the UK.”

“And the more I researched, the more I realized that there are over 3,000 pregnancies from rape every year, but there is no charity to support these women.”

Now a mother of four, Ms Fleet is a Labour MP who was elected earlier this month for the Bolsover constituency, which Dennis Skinner represented for decades before the Conservatives won it in 2019.

In this position, she said she wanted to use her platform to talk more about women in her situation “and do something about it.”

She said: “I really want to be a voice for all these people, for all these women who are having children under less than ideal circumstances.”

She added that her childhood experiences, including “weekly nightmares”, still affect her and said she is still “so excited to see what the next Labour government will do”.

She said: “We will make sure we remove obstacles so that there can be more stories like mine.”

“I am a product of the last Labour government. It was not a perfect government, but it changed my life and was transformative.”

“And that’s why it’s worth doing a job where you can’t go shopping in your pajamas, but still have a panic alarm in your pocket. Your own children are potentially in danger, and that’s really bad.”

“But if it means you can improve the lives of other children who aren’t so fortunate, that’s incredible.”
