First footage of the fourth season gives a taste of the DEATH OF SUPERMAN

The CW has released the first footage from the fourth and final season of Superman and Loisand while it’s far from the full teaser we were hoping for (that won’t be released until after DC’s SDCC panel), it does seem to confirm which iconic comic book storyline will be adapted for these final episodes.

Although this probably won’t be a big surprise after the events of the third season finale and yesterday’s poster featuring the Man of Steel’s tattered cape, it looks like the final season of the series will indeed be about The Death of Superman.

The commercial is only a few seconds long, but gives us a brief glimpse of Doomsday flying away with Superman in his clutches, a crying Lois Lane, and the villain Lex Luthor.

Fans thought it was only a matter of time until Superman and Lois was canceled when it was announced that James Gunn and Peter Safran had taken over as co-leaders of the new DCU, and The CW announced that the popular DC Comics-based drama would end after season 4 late last year.

Superman and Lois The conclusion of his series marks the end of an era for the Greg Berlanti-produced Arrowverse (or CWverse, if you prefer), which began with Arrow in 2012.

“Over the past three seasons, Superman & Lois has redefined both the superhero genre and the family drama, as Tyler, Elizabeth and the entire cast effortlessly portrayed these classic characters with new levels of depth and complexity never before explored in the Superman universe,” said Brad Schwartz, president of entertainment for The CW, last November. “We are grateful to the show’s writers, producers, actors and staff, as well as our amazing partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions for years of hard work and graceful storytelling. As Superman takes his final flight, the team leaves us with an absolutely epic 10-episode farewell to one of the most iconic CW families of all time that is a must-watch.”

“While we are sad to say goodbye to Superman & Lois at the end of season four, we are grateful for the time we had with our amazing cast, crew, VFX teams, editors, musical geniuses and writers. Since the day this show was first discussed, it has been about family. And that is what has been created – on and off the screen.” Executive producers and co-showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher were added. “We want to thank our partners at Berlanti Productions, DC, WB and The CW for their endless support and enthusiasm on this journey… and a special thank you to all the fans who tuned in. We are thrilled about what’s to come in our final season and can’t wait for everyone to watch Superman, Lois and all of our heroes face the greatest threat in the series’ history – Lex Luthor.”

Only four of the twelve regular cast members from the third season – Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Michael Bishop and Alex Garfin – have been confirmed to return for the fourth season.

Superman and Lois returns for a feature-length premiere on Thursday, October 17 at 8:00 p.m. ET/10:00 p.m. PT.
