Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs receives enormous ranking for 2024

Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones is one of the best defenders in football. We know that. However, Pro Football Focus has named him the sixth best player in the NFL. Period.

Jones was the third-best defensive player on the list, behind Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett and Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons.

“No one has performed better than Aaron Donald in recent years than Jones,” wrote Sam Monson.

Jones is coming off the 2023 season in which he played in 16 games and recorded 30 tackles, 10.5 sacks and four passes defensed, along the way earning his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl appearance and his second consecutive First-Team All-Pro selection.

The 30-year-old, who played college football at Mississippi State, was selected by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

His breakthrough came in his third season, in which he recorded 40 tackles, 15.5 sacks, one interception, a couple of forced fumbles, five passes and one defensive touchdown.

Amazingly, Jones did not make the Pro Bowl that year, but made his first appearance in 2019 after recording 36 stops and nine sacks.

In 2022, he reached his career high of 15.5 sacks.

Can the Chiefs win their third Super Bowl in a row?

The Chiefs are looking to win their third Super Bowl in a row, but the odds are definitely against them.

No team in NFL history has ever won three Super Bowls in a row, although the Green Bay Packers did win the NFL championship three times in a row in the 1960s.

The Packers are the only team to win three times in a row.

Kansas City will have to contend with a tough AFC that includes challengers like the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans and New York Jets, and the NFC representative will certainly be no slouch either.

The Chiefs still have the best quarterback of all time in Patrick Mahomes and were able to strengthen their offense with some key players in the offseason, so they should definitely win their ninth consecutive AFC West title.

It remains to be seen whether Chris Jones and Co. can survive another grueling playoff run.
