Chris Christie says on “The View” that Trump’s assassination “doesn’t change his personality”

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie appeared this morning on the episode of The view with weapons drawn. The Republican politician, who has openly spoken out against Donald Trump, doubted that the assassination attempt on the former president had changed him in any way.

Christie remained critical of Trump in conversation with the co-hosts, noting that while the Republican candidate was “affected” by the shooting, he was likely “unchanged.”

“Two things can be true at the same time. I feel for him that this happened to him. I wish it had never happened. It’s terrible for the country to have to see this kind of violence,” Christie said, before adding that it “doesn’t change who he is” and “doesn’t change the fundamentals of this race.”

He even rejected the “idea of unity” that Republicans had propagated after the assassination attempt on Trump.

“I’ve heard these people say the (Republican National Convention) is so united. Well, they were all Trump delegates, of course they’re united!” he said. “If he can’t win this room, what do you do?”

According to Christie, Trump chose “the people he wanted from each state” for his speech at the RNC – which did not impress the former federal prosecutor.

“More than a third of his speech yesterday was improvised, and all he improvised was what he normally says, which is, ‘This is the complaint against me, this is how horribly I was treated, woe is me, but thank God I didn’t give up, so I’m still here for all of you,'” Christie said. “That’s just the way he is. He’s not going to change.”

Christie added that Trump feels “most comfortable” when he deviates from the script.

“The first 15 minutes of that (speech) – he was as listless, as lacking in energy as I’ve ever seen him,” he said. “Why? Because he didn’t like what he was saying. He hated it. He didn’t believe it. But he knew he had to say it.”

The view airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
