Lawrence Taylor was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender

For the second time, former NFL star Lawrence Taylor has been arrested for failure to register as a sex offender.

According to TMZ, the 65-year-old NFL Hall of Famer was arrested in Florida this week for failing to register as a sex offender at his new address. Broward County Jail officials said he turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday, July 17, on an outstanding warrant. He was briefly behind bars for failing to report a name or residence change, but was released on bail in the early hours of Thursday.

He was arrested in December 2021 for failing to register as a sex offender, marking the second time the New York Giants player and two-time Super Bowl winner has failed to meet the requirements of his sex offender status. He will plead not guilty, according to his attorney.

“My client, Lawrence Taylor, will plead not guilty to the latest charges,” said his attorney, Mark Eiglarsh. “As with the previous incident involving the same allegations, Mr. Taylor did not knowingly commit a crime. This situation involves a significant misunderstanding. We are confident that once prosecutors review the exculpatory evidence of Mr. Taylor’s innocence, they will again obtain a favorable outcome.”
