In my never-ending quest to make sure everyone I know gets to experience GWAR at some point in their lives, I bring you all this video today after GWAR stopped by the AV Club Studios for the first AV Undercover session in 7 long years.

The heavy metal/shock rock/hardcore punk band, known for their outlandish and often grotesque costumes, could have played any song in the world, but decided to perform their own version of ‘I’m Just Ken’ from the Barbie film last year and they slightly changed the lyrics of “I’m Just GWAR” for their interpretation.

It’s been a while since I made a habit of posting new music here on BroBible every Friday, and I feel like I’ve done all of you loyal readers a disservice by not bringing you the best new gigs of the week. So I’m going to try to cover more music on Fridays in the future, like I used to. But without further ado, here’s arguably the most famous band to ever come out of Richmond, Virginia, covering “I’m Just Ken.”

Apologies to Ryan Gosling for singing the original, but the berserker Blóthar handles the song in a way that Gosling never could. And while it was the only Slash on guitar for “I’m Just Ken” at the Academy Awards, I’m almost certain he wasn’t the one who played on the original track, and GWAR’s “BälSäc the Jaws ‘o Death” is definitely a hit compared to the original version.

I think the first time I came into contact with GWAR was their cameo appearance in Empire Records. Before that, I had heard the name before but didn’t know who they were. That was a life-changing cameo because I’ve been a fan since I saw the movie sometime in the summer as a kid sitting at home watching TV all day while my parents were at work. Glory days.
