Black Girl Social Club hosts back-to-school party

“The heart that the ladies of this chapter have for the city screams loudly because they truly internalize the concept ‘When we are one, we all win.'”

PETERSBURG – The Petersburg Chapter of the Black Girl Social Club (BGSC Petersburg) hosted its second annual Back to School Bash at Poplar Lawn Park on July 13. Led by Dr. Shaneka Rose and Tomeca Bynum, the ladies of BGSC Petersburg provided over 200 families with fully packed school bags, used clothing, food and community resources, all at no cost to citizens.

Among the honored guests in attendance were Mayor Samuel Parham, Vice Mayor Darrin Hill, District 4 City Councilman Charles Cuthbert Jr. and District 4 School Board Representative Celeste Wynn, who expressed their support for the club’s initiative.

“This was an incredible event and would not have been possible without a phenomenal group of women within the Black Girl Social Club in the city of Petersburg,” said Rose. “The heart that the ladies of this club exude for the city screams loudly as they have truly internalized the concept of ‘When we are one, we all win,’ especially the city and youth of Petersburg.”

Community sponsors included Pound Enterprises, RoseBuds Academy Educational Services, Spring of Hope Therapeutic Services, Crafty Social Worker and United Health, helping to provide the community with local resources including health services, therapeutic and academic tutoring, mental health support and more.
