A widespread outage of the Microsoft Cloud has disrupted millions of computer systems worldwide, causing sudden shutdowns and reboots. According to Microsoft, the main cause is a recent update to CrowdStrike.

CrowdStrike Engineering, a cybersecurity services company working with Microsoft, identified a content delivery issue and immediately took action to revert the changes. In addition, the company has provided a set of steps for affected Windows users to resolve any issues resulting from this issue.

Meanwhile, Indian IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has released a statement saying that MeitY is in constant contact with Microsoft and is working to

The impact of this outage was widespread, affecting critical services worldwide. In India, airlines such as SpiceJet, Akasa Air and IndiGo have reported technical issues affecting online ticket booking, check-in and other functions.

Flights were also cancelled in Australia and the USA due to the technical problem. Financial service providers and banks also felt the effects. The London Stock Exchange is also reportedly affected.

What causes this
In a detailed thread on X, Microsoft confirmed that they are investigating the issue, which has affected users’ access to various Microsoft 365 apps and services.

Normal users, on the other hand, are stuck in a BSOD look or blue screen of death loop. Devices like laptops or desktops that have been updated with this poorly patched part start behaving erratically. They basically can’t boot properly because the software patch messes up the voltages and makes the system unstable.

Because of this, the laptop or desktop triggers a voltage protection program which basically triggers the BSOD.

How to stop the BSOD loop?
– CERT-In and Microsoft have presented a fairly simple way to prevent your device from getting stuck in this loop.
– Start Windows in Safe Mode or Windows Recovery Environment. On most laptops, users can do this by pressing either F10, F11, Enter, or Delete.
– Select the option “Boot in safe mode”.
– After booting, navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike.
– Find the file that matches C-00000291*.sys and delete it.
– Start the device normally.

Various services are affected
This incident also underscores the importance of robust cybersecurity measures and the far-reaching impact that technical issues can have.

As technology advances, it is critical for companies like Microsoft and CrowdStrike to maintain the stability and security of their services to prevent similar disruptions in the future.

In summary, the recent Microsoft Cloud outage caused by a CrowdStrike update has caused significant disruption across multiple sectors globally. Both Microsoft and CrowdStrike have taken swift action to resolve the issue. Users are encouraged to follow the recommended resolution steps and stay updated through official channels.
