I am a world-famous golfer and my grandfather invented a hugely popular chocolate bar

Whether it’s a tee shot or tea and chocolate cookies, it runs in the Montgomerie family.

The 61-year-old golf legend Colin is the most famous member of this line. He captained Europe to victory in the Ryder Cup in 2010 and reached number 2 in the world rankings.

And after he invented Blue Ribands

But the surname Montgomerie is not only famous for making history in golf.

That’s because Colin revealed to The Times that his grandfather invented Penguin Biscuits and Blue Ribands.

The popular duo has been consumed across the country for decades.

Penguin biscuits were invented in 1928 by William Macdonald and Sons in Glasgow.

Eight years later, Blue Ribands were reintroduced in Scotland by a company called Gray Dunn.

Colin’s father James continued the legacy and was also active in the confectionery industry.

In the 1960s he was manager of the cult brand Fox’s in Leeds.

And it led to the Montgomerie family moving south of the border, as his father’s job came with season tickets to Elland Road as an added incentive.
