Exclusive: Featurette from Season 2 of “The Responder” focuses on Chris and Franny

In the new episodes that premiered Thursday, we see that Franny is also a loving father, but a cruel cartel leader. He has many facets. As Chris gets stressed out trying to get this job and avoid Franny’s henchmen, we see that he isn’t exactly the model of a good man either.

“I like that mix of pretty much chaos and breakdown, but you also see him at work sometimes where he’s, you know, doing a good job. He’s doing it right and actually helping people. After all, that’s what you expect from the police,” Freeman continues. “(Tilly) has a bit of trouble with Chris in this episode; she hits back a bit. It just reminds him that all this can’t just go one way or the other.”

This gray area in which Chris and Franny live is where Schumacher likes to examine his characters. At the beginning of the featurette, he explains that The Responder is not about cops and criminals or good and bad. It is about all the layers between the extremes.

“In such a way that The Sopranos wasn’t about gangsters, this show isn’t about cops,” says the producer. “It’s about people. It’s about relationships and it’s about the spaces between these people, what brings them together and what drives them apart.”

The respondent Season 2 debuted on BritBox with two episodes on Thursday, July 11, 2024, and two more on Thursday, July 18. The final two episodes of the season will premiere next Thursday, June 25, 2024.
