1. Taylor Swift dance party in downtown Canton

Swifty alert!

A Taylor Swift dance party will be held Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Centennial Plaza in downtown Canton.

The event is taking place for the second time this year and celebrates the pop star’s enormous popularity and her catalogue of hits.

Q92 DJ Nikolina will host the dance party, a free, family-friendly event “where you can immerse yourself in Taylor Swift’s greatest hits from every era,” the Downtown Canton Partnership announced. Fans are encouraged to sing and dance along to the music.

Swift’s hits include “Shake It Off,” “Cruel Summer,” “Anti-Hero,” “You Need to Calm Down,” “Delicate,” “Blank Space,” “Style,” “I Knew Your Were Trouble,” and “Fortnight.”

Three food trucks will be on site: The Flaming Marshmallow, Kona Ice and Pedro’s Taqueria. Jerzee’s Cafe at Centennial Plaza and Arcadia Grille next to the plaza will serve non-alcoholic beverages.

Activities also include face painters and balloon artists. Centennial Plaza is located at 330 Court Ave. NW along Market Avenue N.

2. Authentic food at the Grecian Festival

Get ready for authentic food and a great time this week at the annual Greek Festival in Canton.

The event takes place Wednesday through Saturday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4705 Fairhaven Ave. NW. Festival hours are Wednesday 4-10 p.m., Thursday 11 a.m.-10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.-11 p.m. There will be both indoor and outdoor food.

Homemade Greek dishes and pastries will be served. Entertainment will include dancing. Church tours will also be offered. Food will include gyros, souvlaki, saganaki, loukoumades and more. Beer and wine will also be available.

3rd African American Arts and Culture Festival

The fourth annual African American Arts and Culture Festival will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Centennial Plaza in downtown Canton.

EN-RICH-MENT Fine Arts Academy presents the event with food, live music, artwork, children’s activities and entertainment. Featuring the Sisters of Soul Line Dance Party at 6:15pm and hip hop artists Nicasso Turpin, Jéan P the MC and Demetris Bolling starting at 6:45pm.

Johnny Britt and local singers perform at 7:45 p.m. Headliner The New Edition Experience performs from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

A health zone is open from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., including Xtreme Burn with Sean Strong at 10:30 a.m., Zumba at 11:00 a.m., yoga at 11:30 a.m., and step exercises at 12:00 p.m. A kids zone is open from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

At 3:00 p.m. there will be a drumming competition and awards ceremony on the main stage at Centennial Plaza. At 3:30 p.m. there will be a jam session on the plaza. At 5:00 p.m. there will be a youth performance followed by a fashion show at 5:30 p.m.

4. Shakespeare in the Castle in Alliance

The University of Mount Union’s annual Shakespeare performance begins July 25 and continues the first weekend in August during the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival.

“Romeo and Juliet” will be performed July 25-28 and August 1-4 at 7 p.m. at the historic Glamorgan Castle, 200 Glamorgan St., Alliance. Last year marked the 10th anniversary of the annual Shakespeare at the Castle production.

Ticket prices range from $12 to $25, depending on whether they are general admission or grandstand tickets and whether tickets are purchased in advance or the day of the show. Students also receive a discount. Children under 6 can attend for free, but still need a ticket.

The classic tragedy tells the story of a romance between two teenagers who are forbidden by their feuding families. The adaptation of Shakespeare at the Castle is directed by Kevin P. Kern, professor of theater at Mount Union and artistic director of the production.

5. Celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Cyrus Art Gallery

Cyrus Custom Framing & Art Gallery celebrates its 20th anniversary on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Artworks by Wanda Montgomery and the award-winning Doreen St. John will be on display. The opening ceremony will take place as part of the anniversary. The two artists are long-time friends.

St. John’s work includes oil and pastel paintings, while Montgomery’s art includes abstract and mixed media styles.

The artwork will be on display until September 20th.

6. Sonny and Cher Tribute Show in Jackson

A Sonny and Cher tribute show will be held on July 27 at 6:30 p.m. at La Pizzaria in Jackson Township.

The show also includes dinner. The performance with music and comedy begins at 7:30 p.m.

7. Hunter Skeens plays bluegrass in Minerva

Local bluegrass artist Hunter Skeens and his band will perform a free concert at Municipal Park in Minerva on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Hunter Skeens and the Forerunners play a unique style of traditional and down-to-earth roots music, combining both classical and modern sounds, the Minerva Chamber of Commerce said in a statement.

Skeens plays both guitar and vocals and is known for his energetic performances.

Bringing blankets and chairs is recommended. Food and drinks will be available from Triple T Fresh Cooked Food and the 330 Popcorn Company.

Municipal Park is located on Preston Street, next to Minerva High School, which is located at 501 Almeda Ave.

8. “Raiders of the Lost Ark” in Massillon

“Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark” will be shown Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Lions Lincoln Theater, 156 Lincoln Way E in downtown Massillon.

Tickets are $10 for ages 13 and older and $5 for children under 12. Tickets are available at the door.
