Beauty pageant winner from Michigan takes home international title

BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (CBS NEWS DETROIT) – Amy Douglas, who has now won an international beauty contest.

CBS News Detroit first brought you the June story about the mother-daughter duo from Metro Detroit who both won their respective categories for the 2023-24 United International Queens Pageant. This victory secured their ticket to Atlanta, where Amy took home the international title and was crowned the winner and United International Elite Exceptional Ms. Classic. In that moment, she says, she felt like her favorite singer.

“I’m a queen,” Douglas said. “I felt like Amy Winehouse. That’s how I feel.”

Although Janet came in second place, she says she would never have entered beauty pageants without her daughter.

“For me, it was the mother-daughter experience and you know, I would do anything for my daughter. Most mothers and fathers would do that and it was that shared experience that brought us to this particular pageant because they recognize women with different abilities,” Sides said.

The mother-daughter duo received various recognitions, including signed letters from President Biden.

After Amy’s great success in the beauty pageants, we asked her what she would do next.

“I want to be on The Voice. I would love to sing on The Voice,” Douglas said.
