All3Media’s BBC-Amazon hit series “Boat Story” sets Indian version

All3Media International’s thriller Boat Story, originally commissioned by BBC One and Amazon Freevee, is coming to India. Mumbai-based Locomotive Global Media has acquired exclusive rights to adapt the series for the Indian market.

The 6×60-inch thriller, set to premiere in 2023, is written by Harry and Jack Williams and produced by Two Brothers Pictures in association with All3Media International. Mayank Sharma, known as the creator of “Breathe” for Prime Video India, will helm the Indian adaptation as showrunner and director, and Locomotive Global Media will produce.

Boat Story is about two cash-strapped strangers who discover a stash of cocaine on a shipwreck. Their plan to sell it and split the profits leads them into a web of intrigue involving the police, masked killers and a dapper gangster known as The Tailor.

This acquisition underscores Locomotive Global Media’s continued focus on bringing international formats to Indian viewers, having already adapted “Ray Donovan” for Netflix India. A platform for the adaptation of “Boat Story” has not yet been announced.

Roshni Ghosh, Producer at Locomotive Global Media, said, “We pride ourselves on adapting international formats for Indian audiences. We are excited to bring ‘Boat Story’ to India and work with creative minds and our partners at All3Media International to present stories that provide an entertaining experience.”

Jaenani Netra, VP, Sales Finished and Formats (Asia) at All3Media International, said, “This partnership is our first joint deal for a scripted format. ‘Boat Story’ is both a thriller and a dark comedy drama. Under the leadership of Mayank Sharma and Locomotive Global Media, we look forward to seeing ‘Boat Story’ take shape.”

Sharma said, “I am really excited to be working on the adaptation of ‘Boat Story’. It is a fun, wildly entertaining show with likeable yet quirky characters that keep you hooked till the end. While we try to retain the essence of the original, we are excited to bring local flavor and fresh perspectives to our version that will fill the show with action, humor and suspense, tailored specifically for the Indian audience.”
