Tompkins County begins search for new county administrator

ITHACA, NY – Tompkins County officials began a search Wednesday for a new county administrator to replace Lisa Holmes, who announced she would resign from her post in April.

Holmes will remain in the position until she retires at the end of the year. The new district administrator will begin work in 2025.

The County Administrator manages and oversees all governmental affairs of the county, including nearly 30 departments. He also leads the preparation of the county’s annual budget.

The online job posting describes the ideal candidate as someone with 8 to 10 years of administrative and management experience who “understands complex organizations and local government.”

The starting salary for the position is $180,000, but will rise to $189,010 after nine months, the job description states. Applications must be submitted by August 18.

The district hired national recruitment agency Goodwin Recruiting to assist in the search.
