Netflix is ​​now streaming two of the most popular Gundam anime series

The Mobile Suit Gundam Franchise has many different iterations, some of which are iconic fan favorites. Well, two of the definitive Gundam Anime series from the 2000s find a new streaming home.




Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and its sequel, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destinyare now available on Netflix and round out the streaming network’s mecha anime offering. These also include several entries in the “Universal Century” Gundam Schedule. Given the recent success of the new Gundam SEEDS Film, the inclusion of these two shows is a smart move to bring these titles – and the franchise as a whole – to a wider audience.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED & SEED Destiny can now be watched on Netflix


From 17 July 2024, both Gundam SEED Anime series are available on Netflix in the US, after previously being added to the Japanese version of the streaming platform. The original Mobile Suit Gundam SEED was broadcast from 2002 to 2003 and included 50 episodes. In 2004, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destinywhich lasted until the following year and had the same number of episodes. Instead of the Universal Century timeline, the Gundam SEEDS Shows were set during the continuity of the “Cosmic Era.” Nevertheless, many fans considered the first Gundam SEED as a spiritual reinterpretation of the original Mobile Suit Gundam.

The popularity of Gundam SEED led to several spinoffs and light novels, including the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED goes astray Manga. Of course, with all these works, various Gunpla plastic model kits were also released, such as mechas like the Strike Freedom Gundam and others. In 2024, the film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom was released in cinemas worldwide and became the biggest box office hit of the entire series to date.

Beyond the Cosmic Era, other Gundam Anime and movies are also available on the Netflix streaming platform. The classic Gundam The film trilogy can be seen there, with these films being edited compilations of the original 1979 anime series. These retold the story of the show, removing both unnecessary filler and narrative elements such as the “Gundam Hammer” that made the series look too much like a Super Robot anime. The films are also available on Netflix. Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack And Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathawaywhich both take place later in the Universal Century timeline, after the events of sequels such as Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. In the meantime, Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance is an original series coming to Netflix in fall 2024. This CGI series will be set in the Universal Century timeline and will take place towards the end of the One Year War.


Apart from his new home on Netflix, both of the Gundam SEED Anime can also be streamed on Crunchyroll, making it widely accessible to new and old fans. Considering the film is the biggest box office success of the entire franchise, it makes sense that Sunrise and Bandai would make the continuity more accessible to viewers worldwide.
