MLS was back and we got some midweek action to get us in the final stretch for the Leagues Cup break. Here’s what happened on that dramatic night.

The biggest surprise of the night came when Chicago surprised Cincinnati at TQL Stadium, putting a stop to Chicago’s plans to top the East Coast and secure the Supporters Shield.

Meanwhile, Inter Miami showed they can cope without the injured Lionel Messi, beating Toronto 3-1 in Fort Lauderdale.

New York City stayed in the East, picking up a late point against Atlanta United in Atlanta, while Orlando City continued its winning streak with a comfortable victory in Nashville. DC United surprised Minnesota with two late goals, compounding Minnesota’s problems.

In the late stages, Seattle extended its winning streak to five games in a row with a comfortable victory over St. Louis City, while LAFC and Real Salt Lake played out a thrilling draw in Los Angeles.

The Galaxy returned to winning ways against Colorado, fending off a late advance from the Rapids and securing all three points in a five-goal thriller.

Cucho just won’t slow down.

The Supporters Shield is getting more and more exciting, with only seven points separating Inter Miami in first place and Columbus Crew in sixth, although Columbus has played two games less than its rivals.

In the West, the Galaxy took first place thanks to LAFC’s home game right next door. However, LAFC, like Columbus, has two fewer games than its rivals from the other half of town.

MLS is back this weekend with the final day of play before the Leagues Cup break. The weekend’s games will highlight two late clashes between the clubs of Cascadia and Los Angeles. Red-hot Seattle hosts LAFC in the perfect game to show its true quality, while Portland travels to Carson to face the Galaxy.
