And did you know that Carpenter is not only the pop princess behind the summer anthem “Espresso,” but she was also a voice actress in her youth? Suddenly her connection to Cartwright makes so much more sense.

The “Please Please Please” singer has released a new album entitled Short and sweet is out August 23rd – but what about her award-winning aunt?

Here is everything we know about the voice actress, who not only voices a whopping nine characters in The simpsonsalso has other memorable characters like Chuckie Finster from The Rugrats and Rufus from Kim Possible.

What is Nancy Cartwright’s background?

Cartwright, 66, was reportedly born in Dayton, Ohio, to Frank and Miriam Cartwright, and grew up in nearby Kettering with her five siblings, one of whom is Carpenter’s father.

She attended Ohio University, where she was a member of the speech and debate team, and later moved to Los Angeles, where she graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles. At UCLA, she became interested in the theater program and began taking voice acting jobs as well as work on stage and on camera, according to the university’s website.

According to her biography on her website, Cartwright’s career as a professional voice actress began with an unsolicited call to the legendary Daws Butler, the voice of Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound and many more iconic characters. After months of mentorship, Butler took Cartwright to a recording of The brand new Popeye hourin which he played Wimpy, and introduced her to the director and cast as his protégé. The meeting culminated in Cartwright’s first job as a voice actress – and the rest is history. On her website, Cartwright calls Butler her “coach, mentor, surrogate father and inspiration.”

Cartwright wears many hats. Although she is best known for her voice acting, Cartwright is definitely multi-talented. She wrote an autobiography entitled My life as a 10-year-old boy and made it a one-woman play, is a sculptor and painter, has an audio book entitled I’m still a 10-year-old boyis a YouTuber, taught a Masterclass for the dubbing and was co-author of the film In search of Fellini.

She is also a prolific philanthropist, having donated to the American Library Association and the Make-a-Wish Foundation, among others. She founded the Know More About Drugs Alliance—a nonprofit that raises awareness about prescription opioids and psychiatric drugs—and co-founded Happy House, which focuses on “building better families.” Her website also mentions that she will soon be releasing a podcast. Yes, Caramba! That is a lot!

The internet may be just learning about their relationship, but Carpenter, 25, has been speaking highly of her aunt for some time. She told Capital FM in 2021 that it was “the coolest thing in the world” that Cartwright was her aunt, adding in a Wired interview that she’s “learned so much just by watching her.” She is often quoted as calling her aunt “a woman of many talents.”

Cartwright has also been supportive of Carpenter since very early in her career. If you scroll back to 2016 on Cartwright’s Instagram, you’ll see that the voice actress posted a video of her niece performing. The caption reads, “My gorgeous niece, Sabrina Carpenter, at the Roxy! She’s only 17 – almost 30! She’s such a star!!!”

She is a “megadonor” for Scientology

Cartwright was raised Catholic but joined the Church of Scientology in 1991, The Independent reports. one of the many celebrities who remain strong advocates of the controversial religion.

In 2019, she reportedly donated $17.5 million to the church, earning her Diamond Honoree with Distinction status, according to the NY Post. Last year, she donated more than $21 million to the International Association of Scientologists, which awarded her the title of Patron Excalibur with Distinction. Cartwright called the honor the “most beautiful recognition,” according to the same publication.

The church has been involved in several controversies over the years, including allegations that it pressured its members to donate large sums of money in order to advance in the higher ranks.
