On Wednesday, Mets officials were still finalizing their plans for the second-half starting lineup, but had agreed on Sean Manaea as the starting pitcher for Friday night against the Marlins.

Since Manaea is scheduled to open the four-game series in Miami, the left-hander will be able to play in the Subway Series finale against the Yankees five days later.

The Mets prefer to field two left-handed hitters against the Yankees, a tactic they used to win both games of the Subway Series at Citi Field last month.

That would mean that Jose Quintana or David Peterson would start as pitchers at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday.

Luis Severino expressed his disappointment at not being able to play against his old team, the Yankees, in the last Subway Series and vowed to be in the starting lineup this time.

While the right-hander has not been completely ruled out of consideration for the Subway Series, it seems far more likely that the Mets will use two left-handers.

There is also a possibility that Kodai Senga will be included in the rotation for the Mets series against the Braves next weekend.

The right-hander still has one or two rehab appearances in the minor leagues left before his season debut.

Senga completed a bullpen session on Wednesday in preparation for his next rehab start – which has not yet been officially announced.

Mets officials want Senga to make 75-80 pitches during his next rehab assignment and then have to decide if he is ready or needs another assignment in the minor leagues.

The Mets signed left-handed relief pitcher Alex Young from the Giants and sent him to Triple-A Syracuse.

Tyler Jay was designated for duty.
