Destiny 2: How to unlock focus for Aberrant Action and Corrasion (when available)

Destiny 2: How to unlock focus for Aberrant Action and Corrasion (when available)

The second act of Destiny 2’s first new episode, Echoes, adds two new weapons to the list of weapons you can obtain through the episode’s activities. As with other episode weapons, you can earn the ability to purchase these two weapons from Failsafe, the Echoes vendor, over time. However, the ability to “focus” Echoes engrams in Aberrant Action or Corrasion isn’t immediately available when the episode starts. Instead, you’ll need to earn them as a vendor upgrade by completing Failsafe’s tasks.

The bad news is that the ability to unlock Focus for Aberrant Action and Corrasion won’t be available during the first week of Act 2, even if you play through all available story and failsafe content this week. But we have an idea of what you’ll need to do to unlock it when it becomes available.

Both weapons are pretty notable: Aberrant Action is a rocket-assisted sidearm and only the third of its kind in the game, while Corrasion is a heavy pulse rifle that feels different to almost all other pulse rifles, making them a tempting proposition to get god rolls with by focusing or crafting.

Complete Failsafe’s sample missions.

Sample ID: NES004 unlocks the next vendor upgrade for Failsafe, but not the desired one.

With Act 2 comes Specimen ID: NES004, a new mission to collect weird Vex stuff from Nessus for Failsafe to examine. The mission is a bit of a chore, and while completing it doesn’t unlock the upgrade to focus the new weapons, it does unlock another upgrade. It will be necessary to destroy this one to get the upgrade that does bring concentration, so you’ll want to complete it when you can.

NES004 Step 1 – Open Episode Chests

Specimen ID: NES004 is a bit of a pain to complete. The first step requires you to complete episode activities and open the chests you find at the end of each one, and progress can be slow when doing so. Some activities, like the Enigma Protocol, don’t contribute to progress at all, while Battlegrounds only contribute around 22% to progress, meaning you’ll need to complete around five of them to reach the objective. We found that we made the fastest progress by playing higher difficulty Breach Executable missions, which each gave around 33% progress.

NES004 Step 2 – Focus Echoes Equipment

No label specified

Once you’ve completed enough episode activities, you’ll return to Failsafe. You’ll need to focus five Echoes engrams into gear items, but you can’t decode Echoes engrams into random things that count toward progression. Instead, use the focus menu to select something specific. You not You’ll have to focus individual weapons or armor if you don’t want to, which is good because specific focusing costs more engrams that you might want to save. Instead, for the cheapest option, choose the Echoes engram in the armor focusing menu on the far left. This will cost you one engram per decode, but counts as focusing for the quest. Once you’ve focused five, you’re done.

NES004 Step 3 – Extract data and complete battlefields

This is a simple task where the requirement is to extract data from episode activities and defeat powerful combatants in Battlegrounds activities. While it sounds like these are two separate requirements, you can actually complete them in a single Battlegrounds run. Just be sure to pick up Radiolite Specimens, those oddly shaped crystals, during the Battlegrounds run. It’s recommended that you equip your Ghost Husk with a Resource Detector so you can easily spot them. You’ll also want to use your Piston Hammer on the strange Vex planetary assimilation flasks in the mission to ensure you get enough Radiolite along the way to complete the objective. In our experience, however, this was done without us really having to think about it.

NES004 Step 4 – Return to Failover

Go back to the HELM and talk to Failsafe to get your final sample ID NES004 and add it to the sample tank. This will unlock the Armor Reputation Boost upgrade with Failsafe, which gives you 100% more Failsafe reputation points when wearing Echoes armor and doing things like completing Echoes activities and redeeming Echoes bounties.

Unfortunately, this does not give you the opportunity to focus Aberrant Action or Corrasion. doeshowever, complete Specimen ID: NES004 so you can complete the next Specimen mission when it comes up. Eventually one of these should unlock the ability to focus these new weapons, which will also allow you to purchase a Deepsight version each week to unlock the ability to craft them faster.

We’ll update this guide as Act 2 progresses and we know more about unlocking Focus for Echoes weapons, so stay tuned.
