Georgetown Nonprofits Unite: The Caring Place to Keep Laundry Done Do you love Georgetown’s free laundry service?

Georgetown, Texas: Caring never stops, and neither does laundry. Two Georgetown nonprofits that serve people with basic needs, The Caring Place and Laundry Love Georgetown, are pleased to announce a collaboration that will bring the laundry program into The Caring Place’s service offerings.

Founded in 2013, Laundry Love Georgetown is an important resource for the community, providing free laundry services in a friendly and dignified environment. Leslie Hearne, the executive director of Laundry Love Georgetown, is stepping down after nine years at the helm, but the legacy of this important service she led will continue under The Caring Place.

Leslie reflects on her time at Laundry Love Georgetown: “It has been an incredible privilege to serve our community alongside such dedicated volunteers. I am confident that The Caring Place is the perfect partner to continue this important program. Together, we will ensure the continuation of a program that builds self-esteem, restores dignity, and contributes to health and hygiene. All of this is wearing clean clothes and sleeping in clean sheets.”

“We are honored that Leslie has entrusted The Caring Place with this impactful and well-run program she has built,” says Erin Becnel, Program and Service Manager at The Caring Place. “Laundry Love perfectly complements our mission to meet the basic needs of our neighbors. We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition by using Leslie’s model for the program’s impactful service.”

Laundry Love Georgetown offers free laundry on the second Tuesday and last Thursday of each month at Georgetown Washatopia (1910 South Austin Avenue). The Caring Place strives to minimize disruption to Laundry Love Georgetown’s dedicated network of volunteers, supporters and donors. The program’s name will officially change to Loads of Caring on August 1, but most aspects of the service will remain the same. Loads of Caring will continue to offer free laundry washing and drying for families in need. The Caring Place welcomes Laundry Love’s existing Host Teams and encourages new groups to join.
