The Hulu and FX-released historical drama “Shogun,” which was largely filmed in Ucluelet and Port Moody, topped the Emmy Awards nominations this year.

The Television Academy announced the nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards on Wednesday. The limited series, filmed in Hollywood North, received 25 nominations, closely followed by last year’s Emmy favorite The Bear, which won 10 awards in 2023. Those numbers helped the FX network finish second with 93 nominations behind leader Netflix with 107.

“It really surprised us, in the best way,” said FX boss John Landgraf, according to Variety. “You just feel this overwhelming pride for the artists and the nominees.”

The hit Japanese historical epic is FX’s most-watched series of all time (measured by the number of hours streamed worldwide) and only the second non-English-language series to be nominated in the “Best Drama Series” category, the first being the Korean series “Squid Games.”
