Miley Cyrus has released her most personal song yet in the wake of her recent split from Liam Hemsworth, with a haunting image to accompany the heartbreaking lyrics.

“Slide Away” was posted to their official YouTube account overnight Friday, and the opening image shows alcohol bottles and pills floating on what looks like a pool.

The lyrics are also authentic: The song begins with the words “It’s time to let go” and “Once we were found, now we are lost.”

She continues: “Once upon a time there was paradise.”

She gives every happy beginning lines like “it crumbled into dust.”

“You said everything has changed,” she adds. “So let’s get out of here.”

Even the background music has a vintage feel and is almost reminiscent of a Nirvana song from the 90s.

Of course, she doesn’t specifically address the breakup in the song, but it comes almost a week after the announcement of the breakup.

On Monday evening, Hemsworth broke his silence on the split, writing: “Just a quick note to say that Miley and I recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness in the future.”

This came a day after Cyrus shared an encouraging message about change and growth on Instagram.

“Don’t fight evolution because you will never win,” she wrote.

Over the weekend, the singer’s spokesperson confirmed the split: “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. They are constantly evolving and changing as partners and individuals. They have decided this is the best thing to do while they both focus on themselves and their careers. They continue to be devoted parents to all of their shared animals while lovingly enjoying this time apart.”

The couple had only married last December after being together on and off for nearly a decade.
