Shake Shack, Nathan’s, 7-Eleven and more offer hot dog deals on National Hot Dog

If you were scared to eat during Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest, chain restaurants have sweet deals on hot dogs for you for National Hot Dog Day. Shake Shack is one of several fast-food joints handing out Glizzies on July 17.

The burger joint is offering free Shack Dogs with every purchase on Wednesday. Customers must use the code FREEHOTDOG when paying at the kiosk, online or via the app, or simply ask for the offer when ordering in the restaurant. A maximum of one hot dog is available per customer.

Other fast food restaurants are upping their offers with discounts that will make you say “Hot Diggity Dog!” At Nathan’s Famous, customers can get a hot dog for just 5 cents. The low price is no coincidence – it was the original price of a hot dog at Nathan’s Famous when the first restaurant opened in 1916, according to a press release.

To secure the offer, which allows customers to get just two hot dogs for 5 cents each, go to a Nathan’s Famous location on Wednesday, July 17 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

At 7-Eleven, rewards members can snag a hot dog for $2 when they order through the app. Again, you won’t match Joey Chestnut’s record of 76 hot dogs, as each customer is limited to one hot dog.

PEOPLE caught up with the ambitious eater after Chestnut missed Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest this summer for the first time in 20 years. (He was not allowed to participate due to a conflict with a plant-based brand he has a partnership with.)

Instead, the 16-time Nathan’s champion spent his Fourth of July attending a fundraiser for military families at Fort Bliss Air Force Base in Texas, where he wolfed down 57 hot dogs in five minutes. Although he devours hot dogs for fun, Chesnut said he eats the summertime dish offstage, too.

“Oh my God, I still love them,” he told PEOPLE. “When I’m at a baseball game, I’ll have a hot dog and a Pepsi, and that’s one of the things I love.”

“My favorite ingredients are mustard and raw onions,” he added. “Oh, a good chili cheese dog… The right proportions of chili cheese really help.”
